Rodgers downplays take on cutting Nelson

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) An offseason of change for the Green Bay Packers has been met with occasional displeasure by quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

At the Super Bowl, Rodgers called it "interesting" that the Packers replaced quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt "without consulting me." Also that week, he spoke of the possibility he might have to finish his career elsewhere, like predecessor Brett Favre.

In the wake of the Packers' decision to release his close friend Jordy Nelson on March 13, Rodgers added "it's pretty clear that players play and coaches coach and personnel people make decisions (and) that's the way they want it."

DE Ansah signs franchise tag with Lions

DETROIT (AP) Ezekiel Ansah signed his franchise tag Tuesday, signaling his return to the Detroit Lions .

"That's a pretty big guy to have returning," Lions coach Matt Patricia said recently. "If he was out there in the free agent market with some other team right now that would be their front headline."

7-time Pro Bowl C Mangold retires

NEW YORK (AP) Nick Mangold has made his final snap after 11 years of consistency, toughness and NFL-wide respect as one of the game's best centers.

The former New York Jets star - with his signature blond, bushy Viking-like beard - announced his retirement in a post on Twitter on Tuesday morning . He was selected to seven Pro Bowls and was twice a first-team All-Pro.

LB Miller defends shark hunting trip

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Von Miller says he didn't do anything wrong when on a recent shark fishing excursion in Florida that's drawn the interest of conservation officials.

The Denver Broncos star said he's an avid hunter and fisherman who always follows the rules.

Broncos cut 1,000-yard rusher Anderson

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) C.J. Anderson is leaving Denver with a million memories, a Super Bowl ring and no hard feelings.

"It's business, I understand it," Anderson told The Associated Press on Monday after he was released by the Denver Broncos. "I've been here five years and it came to an end. So, I'm excited for the next opportunity."

Vikings sign LB Kendricks to extension

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Vikings can cross another core player off their to-do list for contract extensions.

Linebacker Eric Kendricks became the latest recipient of a new multi-year deal, when he re-upped with the club on Monday. After being drafted in the second round out of UCLA in 2015, Kendricks has led the Vikings in total tackles in each of his first three seasons.

Longtime Steelers LB Harrison retires

PITTSBURGH (AP) James Harrison is taking another shot at retirement, and this time it's likely to stick for the longtime Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker.

The five-time Pro Bowler, two-time All Pro and 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year announced on Instagram early Monday he is stepping away from the game following a 15-year career that saw him go from undrafted free agent to one of the most feared players in the league.

Donald not at Rams' voluntary workouts

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) Defensive lineman Aaron Donald has skipped the start of the Los Angeles Rams' voluntary offseason workouts.

The Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year wasn't at the Rams' training complex Monday while most of his teammates began strength and conditioning work.

Pass rusher Irving returns to Cowboys

FRISCO, Texas (AP) Defensive end David Irving is returning to the Dallas Cowboys after signing a $2.9 million, one-year offer as a restricted free agent.

The Cowboys could have matched any offer for Irving after giving him a second-round tender. Irving reported for the start of offseason workouts Monday and signed the contract.
